As I have been hinting at over the past few weeks, my time here at Killed By The Video Star has now come to an end, with the blog being retired from the b5 Media network as of tomorrow. I’ll be sad to see it go, but I’ve had a great time reviewing some of my favourite, and least favourite videos over the past 9 months.
The blog may be back in some form or another in the future, but that’s not up to me to decide. I don’t know how many regular readers we have, but to anyone reading this, I’d like to say thanks for reading, commenting, and verbally abusing me during my tenure - it’s been great fun.
You can still find me all over the Web, as believe it or not, I do this for a living… stop laughing at the back. Just search for ‘Dave Parrack’ and you’ll see me pop up in a number of different places. At b5, I can still be found at Brit Music Scene, which covers everything there is to know about British music, both new and old… and Amy Winehouse.
Make sure you keep your browsers pointed at b5 Media, as though some blogs are going the way of the dodo, there are still some of the best musical insights being meted out on a daily basis across the music channel. And the writers are my friends, so no nasty comments!

This will be the last video I review here on Killed By The Video Star, at least for the foreseeable future. Tomorrow, I will be summing up my time here, with links to my favourite and least favourite videos.
For now though, I thought we should go out with a video that surely shows the way forward for originality and innovation in the world of music promos. If only more artists were as forward thinking as Radiohead.
This song is called House Of Cards, and comes from their (already) highly influential album, In Rainbows - the first album to be made available virtually for free, over the Internet.

I’m not too keen on Metallica’s newer stuff, but there’s no doubting the quality of this song. One is almost 20 years old now, and still stands up to scrutiny as one of the best Metallica songs ever.
Maybe it’s because they were young and fresh, you know, before they got their knickers in a twist about Napster, and starting releasing crap. Or maybe it’s because the line-up at this time was brilliant.

I’ve been quite critical of the new breed of hip-hop and rap videos here on Killed By The Video Star during my stay, bemoaning many for their lack of innovation, or stunning visuals, instead relying on half-naked women to fill the void left by the former.
So it’s nice to be able to review a rap song and video that I adore. Mo Money, Mo Problems is one of the best hip-hop videos ever made, right up there with Missy Elliot’s Get Ur Freak On, and Hard Knock Life by Jay-Z.

Ignore the cheesy title: I’m going through that phase that you do when school is about to break up for the summer. With just a couple of videos left to review for you guys, the end is nigh.
Luckily, I still have some of my favourite videos left to share with you. I knew I was keeping them in my locker for some reason, and this was destined to be it.
Here we have Beck with Loser, his first real hit, and a song which I think still stands up to scrutiny today. I hate to say it, but it’s also probably the best thing he’s ever written. And the video is AWESOME.

Continuing the countdown to the end of the month with the best of the best music videos ever made, and here we have Lenny Kravitz rocking out big style with Are You Gonna Go My Way.
The song absolutely rocks, and still has me playing air guitar even now every time I hear it. But the video is a strange one, as although there’s not much to it, it is absolutely brilliant. A classic case of less is more.

The best music videos are the ones that sum up a time in your life, or resonate down the years, and 1979, by The Smashing Pumpkins, is one such video.
I remember what age I was when this came out, and what sort of things I was doing in my life. It’s one of those songs which sticks in the mind and helps you remember a better time in your life.
I was 18/19 years old when this was doing the rounds on MTV and the like, and maybe that’s why it resonated with me so much, showing kids on the edges of adulthood, as I too was experiencing at the time.

A week today, on the 31st of July, Killed By The Video Star will be no more, it will be a dead blog, kind of like the parrot in that Monty Python sketch. You know, the one about the lumberjack or something.
Anyway, to that end, I am counting down the days to the end of the month with some of my favourite videos of all time. And I’m also thanking you, the readers, for a great 9 months of having me give my opinions on the best and worst music videos around at the moment.
This sing seemed fitting, being called Thank U, and all that. It also features Alanis Morissette naked (sort of), which has got to be a good thing. By the way, you can still catch my scribblings over at Brit Music Scene… if you want to of course.

TLC were once massive, with their unique brand of pop r’n'b, mixed with the occasional bit of rapping by Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, who is unfortunately no longer with us after being killed in a car accident in 2002.
This song, Waterfalls, was the first time I remember seeing the group on TV, and what a brilliant video to start off with. The amazing thing is that it’s now 13 years old, but the lyrics, and imagery are still relevant to this day.

Another visit to the archives today, with another one of my favourite videos of all time. Today, the video is Get Ur Freak On, by Missy Elliot, ably assisted as always by Midas himself, Timbaland, who manages to get name-checked twice.
Missy Elliot has made some amazing videos in her career, with One Minute Man, and The Rain also standing out along with this one. As with all my favourite videos, there’s just something magic about this three-minute promo which makes me watch time and time again.
